Cooling is not keeping up

Your AC is running but not cooling. What should you check?

Protect people first. If indoor heat is becoming dangerous, move high-risk occupants to a safer cool location and use emergency or medical guidance as needed. A carbon-monoxide alarm, suspected gas odor, smoke, burning odor, sparks, repeated breaker trips or water near energized equipment ends troubleshooting: leave or keep clear and contact the appropriate emergency, utility or electrical help.

When conditions are safe, record the equipment type, thermostat display/mode/setpoint, whether only the fan or both indoor and outdoor sections run, filter condition, open supply and return paths, visible ice or water, and when comfort changed. Does warm air mean the refrigerant is low?

No. Several system, airflow, control and load conditions can produce the same symptom; refrigerant work requires proper evaluation.

Should I keep resetting the breaker?

No. A repeated trip is a stop condition, not a troubleshooting method.

Can a dirty filter be the whole answer?
