Portable Cleaner or Central HVAC Filter?

EPA says portable cleaners serve one room or area; central HVAC filters cover air throughout a home, but neither removes all pollutants. EPA guide

A clean air delivery rate (CADR) measures particle filtration; EPA says it should be large enough for the intended room or area.

A central filter operates only while HVAC runs. EPA says choose Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value (MERV) 13 or the highest rating the fan and filter slot can accommodate.

Filtration supplements source control and clean-air ventilation. Compare the unit’s model, intended area and CADR with the central filter rating and HVAC run pattern; leave fit for review by an HVAC professional.
