TV picture-path decision guide

TV pixelates on only some channels: what should you compare?
Pixelation on selected channels is a pattern to document, not a diagnosis of a failed television, receiver, cable, dish or provider feed. Start by recording the current TV service, whether the problem is live or recorded, the exact channels or programs and the time. Then compare the television's own menu and one other normal, supported source or input. Sony uses those comparisons to separate a picture seen on the TV menu from one limited to incoming programming, but that comparison does not identify the underlying cable or satellite fault.
Provider-specific events can affect only part of a delivered service, but they must stay provider-specific. Xfinity describes one sun-outage scenario that can affect satellite-delivered networks while its named unaffected examples include local broadcast stations and OnDemand. That is a conditional Xfinity example, not a diagnosis for another provider or for your account. If the menu and another input remain clear and the same named channels or programs stay affected, send the exact pattern to the current television provider instead of changing provider-controlled or outdoor equipment.
Keep the comparison indoors and within ordinary controlsDo not troubleshoot connected equipment or cables during lightning, and do not open, climb to or alter provider-controlled equipment for this check.
Scope and local limits
What remains provider- and installation-specific
The exact provider, delivery path, receiver, subscription, channel lineup and installed equipment control the next diagnostic step.
U.S. national guidance
Your television provider and installed equipment determine the relevant support path.
Applies nationallyThis guide organizes safe observations and a support handoff; it does not diagnose a television service remotely.
Must be confirmed locallyProvider notices, model instructions, property access and local electrical or installation requirements still control.
Separate the service, observed pattern and next decision
Which situation best matches the home?
01
The television menu is also distorted
A distortion visible on the television's own menu is a different observation from pixelation limited to incoming programming. It still does not prove which component failed.
Notice next: Photograph the menu and the affected program under the same safe viewing condition and record the TV model.
02
Only one input, receiver or app is affected
Compare one other normal, supported source or input. Keep the result tied to the exact device or app instead of extending it to every TV service.
Notice next: Record the input name, connected device or app and whether the comparison source remains clear.
03
The menu and another input are clear, but named live channels remain affected
Preserve the exact channel, program, time and current provider path. This is enough to make a specific support request, not enough to identify a feed, receiver, wiring or signal cause.
Notice next: Check the current provider's official service notice or support channel and save any case or incident reference.
04
The current provider identifies a specific service event
Follow that provider's current notice within its stated service and account scope. Xfinity's sun-outage description is one example and must not be generalized to another provider or event.
Notice next: Save the provider notice, its timestamp and the services it actually names; do not invent a recovery deadline.
Safe observation
What to record for provider or manufacturer support
A short, exact record is more useful than a guessed cause.
These observations support a more specific support request; they do not establish a signal diagnosis, fault owner, repair scope or recovery time.
What to record
Current TV provider and whether the affected content is live, recorded, streamed or received over an antenna
Exact channel numbers, channel names or programs and the time each symptom appeared
Whether the television menu remains clear
Result from one other ordinary, supported source or input
Receiver, app and TV model shown in accessible settings or labels
Any current official provider notice and its case or incident reference
Stop and get appropriate help
During lightning, avoid connected electrical equipment and cables and wait for safe conditions.
Do not open a receiver, alter a provider-controlled splitter, move a dish or climb to inspect outside wiring.
Stop if a normal supported comparison would require damaged cords, wet equipment or an unsafe access point.
Move from information to action
Who is the useful next contact?
TV manufacturer or personally owned device support
Use the TV manufacturer's official support when the television menu is affected. For a personally owned device, use its official support when the pattern follows that device. For a provider-managed receiver, contact the current television provider first.
TV or personally owned device model
Menu comparison result
Other supported source or input result
Current television service provider
Contact the current provider first for its managed receiver or service. Also use existing-customer support when the menu and comparison input are clear but the same named channels or programs remain affected.
Account service type without publishing account credentials
Exact affected channels or programs and times
Live-versus-recorded state and comparison results
Any official provider notice or case reference
These comparisons do not identify a current outage or promise a recovery time. Follow the current provider's guidance and the instructions for your exact equipment.
Professional help
Use this guide to prepare for a qualified local professional.
The available connection is for a new internet-service request only. Technical support, billing, cancellation and existing-account requests must go to the current provider.
No support or billing line is offered on this guide
