Why is the AC running but blowing warm air? The symptom narrows the next observation but does not identify a failed part. For the heating and cooling system, first separate what the thermostat or normal controls request from what the indoor and outdoor equipment actually do. Note airflow, temperature change, timing, sound, odor, visible water or ice and whether the problem affects one room or the whole home, without opening a panel or reaching into equipment.
Warm airflow with a steady blower is a different branch from no airflow, intermittent operation, or a thermostat that never starts a cooling call, and none identifies a failed part by itself. A qualified inspection can compare the thermostat call with indoor and outdoor operation, measured airflow, coil and condensate condition, electrical controls, and refrigerant-circuit findings without guessing from the vent temperature alone. When calling, describe which sections run and ask the contractor to separate diagnostic labor, any airflow or electrical correction, refrigerant work, and follow-up testing in the proposed scope. Outdoor heat, humidity, smoke, building exposure, utility interruptions, and local refrigerant or permit rules can change the evaluation, so national guidance cannot establish the cause at one home. From a safe distance, note whether air reaches the rooms, whether the outdoor unit is operating, and whether ice, water, burning odor, or repeated breaker trips are visible.
